When most people think of a fireplace, they imagine a stack of wood and a beautiful, big fire burning. Warming the room and creating a beautiful sight at the same time. Having a wood-burning fireplace is the dream of a lot of homeowners.

However, propane gas fireplaces have created a sensation in the marketplace. Using a propane tank to supply the fuel needed to sustain the fire, you can simply cut it on, light it, and you immediately have a wonderful glow in the room. What you don’t have is that ambience that only a wood-burning fireplace can provide.

Let’s think about it. Is a wood-burning fireplace efficient? Of course not. The flames are not directed therefore they spill into the room willy-nilly. Can you control the amount of heat from a wood-burning fireplace that you can from a propane fireplace? No. With a propane fueled fireplace, you can cut it off and on, and up and down, as needed.

Many propane fueled fireplaces have blowers installed to blow the heat out into the room. It is much more efficient for controlling and distributing the heat than just letting wood burn in an open room such as the ones with vaulted or cathedral ceilings.

Is a wood-burning fireplace clean burning? Of course not. Anyone who has to get down on their hands and knees and clean out the ashes from the night before, can attest to that. Hopefully, the ashes have cooled or someone can get a nasty burn. Are they safe? No. Many a child or even an adult trying to set or extinguish the fire, have been burned.

Oh, do you have a supply of firewood that can be delivered and paid for with every visit? Or do you have to cut it in the freezing cold and haul it into the house every time you run a little short? Good grief, are you cutting down your precious trees for ambience? Think about that.

With a propane fueled fireplace, you have none of the mess. It is easy to cut on and off and control, as mentioned. Surely safety counts for something! Oh, and you get to keep your trees. And, stay in the warm house instead of stomping around outside for firewood to find it all gone. These items should be at the very top of your list when considering propane or wood burning fireplaces.

You can even convert a wood burning stove to propane fueled. However, if you do not already have a propane tank installed for other purposes, such as cooking, it can become costly, and such a conversion may not be cost-effective in the end.

So, the decision comes down to ambience versus safety, efficiency and cleanliness. It would seem an easy choice to make although some homeowners struggle. Perhaps they should visit one of the stores that sell propane fueled fireplaces and let them explain the benefits and show them how propane fueled fireplaces work.
