The Propane Heaters

Before you consider installing a furnace of any kind, you to first need to determine the actual needs of the space for which the heater will be used. Propane furnaces come in all different sizes and you will not meet your requirements if you install a furnace that is too small for the space that you want to heat.

If you are not comfortable taking the measurements yourself, you should call in a professional. You are going to need one later anyway to hook the gas up. Never try that yourself. Propane emits a deadly carbon monoxide, and you need someone who knows what they are doing for that part of the installation.

The measurements you will need include the square footage of your home together with the ceiling heights, and if they vary from room to room. If you feel you have taken the measurements properly, head to your local home improvement store. With your measurements, it is most likely the department person will be able to make the proper recommendations regarding which size tank you will need.

After you have the tank in hand or the size of which tank you are going to use, check the house to make sure you have enough space to fit the tank and duct work that can be used to distribute the heat throughout the house.

You can save money by doing these items yourself before you bring the professional in to either install the furnace or hook up the gas. If you feel you can install the furnace and have done similar work in the past, you can save some money.

However, only you can decide if you actually have the talent to do the install. If not, do not attempt it. You just might mess it so badly the install has to be canceled.  You can have the professional give you advise along the way. It would still be cheaper if he is satisfied that you can do the work.

As mentioned, do not hook up the gas yourself under any circumstances unless you are a professional yourself. The possible result of the install being bad are not worth the savings.
