There are many different styles and sizes of patio heaters. The good news is because they all burn propane, which is a clean burning fuel, they are all easy to clean.
If you find yourself getting lazy when you know you should be cleaning your patio heater, just remind yourself how hard it would be with another other heat source, cut the television off, get out of that chair and clean your patio heater. You can add years of use to it if you maintain it properly.
There are relatively few things you are going to need to clean your patio heater regardless of what kind it is. If it is a propane patio heater, a damp brush will do. If it is a fire pit, have a hose and stiff brush handy and if it is a chiminea, the hose and stiff brush will work there as well.
Let’s start with the most popular patio heater that burns propane fuel which is the free-standing propane heater. Naturally, you want the heater to be cut off. Once you open the front panel, you will first see build up on the window of the heater. There isn’t anything you can do about that, but wipe it down. The build up is not coming off.
Wipe down the sides as best you can with the damp cloth. Have plenty of water available to rinse the cloth with because it is not something you can do without cleansing the cloth from time to time. If you are going to clean your patio heater, do a good job or get someone else to do it.
The chiminea is a whole other story. For one thing, it is absolutely essential that you give the chiminea time to cool down if you have used it before you decide to clean it.
If you hose down hot chiminea, what will happen is not what you want. It could shatter the sides. When cool, clean out the chiminea and then hose it down. Wipe what you can reach. If you have something that will reach down the top, gently clean that.
The only other propane patio heater is the fire pit. They come in many styles and sizes as well. If your fire pit has an enclosed propane tank, detach and remove the tank before you begin cleaning. Once the tank is out of the way, you can hose it down and wipe off the areas that have soot built up.
