Just like everything else in a house, your propane water heater may experience problems. If you notice that your heater is not performing efficiently, it could be because the connections or wires are loose at the propane water heater itself or outside at the propane tank.
Sometimes the water is tepid, but not hot enough for a bath or shower. If this is the problem, there are different ways of handling it. First, it would be best to check the wires and connections that are in the house on your propane water heater. After taking a good look at it, but not seeing anything that could be causing a problem, you would have to take your investigation another step further. This could result in danger so pay careful attention.
Before you go any farther, make sure you go to the breaker box and cut off the breaker to the propane water heater. Go back to the water heater and check the wires and connections for any that might be loose. Tighten the connections just for good measure. After time, many connections work their way loose and need attention.
After you replace any panels that you may have had to take off, cut the breaker to the propane water heater back on and give it a few minutes. Try it again and check the temperature of the water after you let it flow for a couple of minutes. If there is no improvement, you may have to call a professional for assistance.
If the water is running but is not hot at all, you probably have a problem that is generated from the propane tank installed outside. Remove the panel and see if you can tell if the pilot light is burning. If not, it would be best to cut it off and wait awhile to give any gas in the air time to disperse.
Once you have given it a few minutes, see if you can light the pilot light yourself. If nothing happens, you might have a problem with the tank outside. Either it is empty, which you can probably tell from the gauge, or something else has interfered with its performance.
At this point it is best if you simply step back and call your propane gas distributor. Make sure you cut the gas off so no gas is escaping into the air in case there is a leak.
